Finishing Art Submissions

Paintng fo a man pushing past his boundaries into a garden
The Garden

Finishing up an art Submission is a great feeling. HItting that send button knowing you have done all you can in the given time deadline. the past month I have worked to complete 3 art submissions.

I procrastinate horribly. I will have ample time to get things done but as always I leave it until the last minute. So finishing 3 on time is a huge improvement for me.

This submission I hit the send button at 11:57 pm and got it in just under the deadline.

In the previous blog I showed you how I go through my idea exploration. The next step was deciding what design I liked and putting a general image down on canvas. from those sticky notes grew this painting.

It went through about 3 different stages before I got to this final design.

Now I wait. The one thing about open call submissions that I find tedious is waiting and having to postpone sale of the piece. I won't hear until July 31st if they accepted it and if it is accepted in the show I have to hold on to it until early October.

One of the reasons I enjoy open call submissions is I get some valuable feedback. I also enjoy working within a defined theme. The extra constraints this add gives me a direction to focus and a topic to learn about.

In the initial phases of designing I will research each topic I want to bring to the picture. The research will weed out the ones I feel don;t fit into the narrative I am trying to tell is piece. Most of the narratives start with a personal point. What my perspective is on this topic. WIth an open mind I delve into the academic and social aspects.

With this piece I leaned more towards the personal and my own views of what boundaries means to me.

Let me know your views on open call submissions and what you think of my latest painting.

Hope this finds you well.

Jackie ❤️

I agree totally. No matter what you summit to show. The subject matter should have a reflection of your innermost feelings and meaning.
